Hugh Jackman - The Greatest Show (from The Greatest Showman) [Live at The BRITS 2019]

No, the electricity had not gone out nor a breaker switched off. Oh, how I wish I had listened to my mother and had replaced the old monster tank with one of these tankless models.

I had to rush around and find a repairman who would come at the last minute. Needless to say we had to delay the movie. They looked at my memorabilia and film inventory.

He picks some really great roles, sometimes even when the movie is not the best or something that you would typically watch. Seventeen years is a long time to play one character, even if it was spread across nine films if you count uncredited cameos, which I do.

It is hard to imagine anybody else wearing the claws, and I hope that they go with X instead of a replacement. The part required both athleticism and emotional talent, which Hugh embodied so well.

If you are talking straight up acting roles, you can never go wrong with Hugh Jackman as a romantic lead. At least for the latter, it is probably easy for him to pull off because it is true!

The casting was spot on and makes for a really great film in an otherwise forgettable genre. He is also able to play roles that are more emotional.

My favorite of these is The Prestige. It is a dark and tragic movie. It is awful watching him lose more and of himself as his quest for revenge swallows him up.

The role is serious, running a huge range of emotions, and almost over-the-top vindictive. I saved the musical parts for last.

I think of those, I always enjoyed his appearances at the Tony Awards, especially as host. But my favorite musical performance of his would be in The Greatest Showman.

He really looked like he was having a good time playing the character and performing as P. The songs and performances are a sheer joy to watch, and I think he had a big part in that spirit being present on the set.

However, if you really want to see him doing a great performance in a musical, see if you can find the TV movie Oklahoma!

You might already be familiar with the play and his character, Curly, but it is a real treat to watch. I have to say, I am not typically a fan of musicals.

I heard really good things about this movie from other Hugh Jackman fans, though, so I was totally willing to put my prejudice aside and watch the film to appreciate some more of the incredible talents of Hugh.

From the opening moments, though, I had a big smile on my face. I thought it was an interesting choice to have contemporary music that went along with a period piece.

In a way, it reaffirmed that he was ahead of his time. And my biggest issue with musicals often is that life is not really people bursting into song all the time.

But the way The Greatest Showman works, the music almost feels natural— everything is music: the stomping feet of the crowd, the trains passing by, a bottle sliding down a bar, the clank of coins.

It made the songs that took place outside of the circus a little more realistic. But mostly I loved the upbeat spirit and positive message, which is something that we all need more in this world.

As I said in the first paragraph, I was smiling almost the whole time. This is the perfect movie for Hugh Jackman.

It showcases his humanity and his charisma while giving him an opportunity to show off his amazing singing voice and dancing skills.

He does not seem to be playing a part. You believe he really is P. It is a phenomenal role and he was clearly up for the challenge.

He did an amazing amount of research to prepare for the role, handpicked the director, and pushed to get it made.

It was, essentially, a labor of love. You can really feel that as you watch it. Barnum went, but for me the theatrics of the film outweigh the downside of being completely factual.

It captures the things people loved about going to the circus, about finding your tribe, about creating something magical simply for the beauty and the joy of it.

I have to give a lot of credit also to the costume designers, the songwriters, the musicians, and the choreographers. I really enjoyed it, and it was not just because I really liked watching Hugh in it — although he was incredible!

While it was hit or miss with critics, it did very well at the box office — the third highest grossing musical ever.

You might find you really like it! Since this is a fan site, I thought I would write up a quick Hugh Jackman bio:. He has five older siblings.

There he was in several stage productions and musicals. The same night he performed for the last time there, in , he received his first acting job.

The role, as Kevin Jones in a drama series Correlli was big for him for two reasons. First, it was his first real acting job and it was a lead role.

Unfortunately the show was canceled after only one season, but it allowed Jackman to move on to better things. He had a few more stage and television roles, including a turn as Curly in the TV movie version of Oklahoma!

He won an Olivier Award for this performance, and he has said that it is one of the highlights of his career. Most people will recognize him as the part he played next — Wolverine, a character from the X-Men comics.

Jackman was perfectl in this physically and emotionally demanding role. He returned to the part in several more X-Men movies as well as the stand alone films The Wolverine and Logan.

After the second of which, he announced that he would be hanging up his claws and moving on. There were also some amazing stage performances during this time, notably The Boy from Oz , A Steady Rain, and several one-man shows.

His skills on Broadway earned him the hosting job for several Tony Award shows, for which he received an Emmy. He returned to film to play the role of P.

It almost seems unfair that somebody that good looking would also have so much talent. Hugh Jackman is — by all accounts — a nice guy. He helps entrepreneurs in developing countries by providing microcredit which are very small loans.

I have a favorite actor. And I pay a lot of attention to articles about him, roles he plays, and things like that.

So what. I can admire someone. Especially someone as talented, as professional, and as nice as Hugh Jackman.

Really, who am I kidding, I would probably faint. I probably would not even be brave enough to say something to him, nevermind ask to pose for a picture or something.

My older cousin wanted to watch it, as she is a big fan of chick flicks and said that it was a good one. And it was good, mostly because for some reason Hugh Jackman is so utterly believable in such a ridiculous role.

Afterwards, I bought a copy of the movie for myself and looked up Hugh. I could not believe that it was the same guy who was in all those superhero movies — a genre that at the time, I was not really familiar with.

It just wasn't coming right to me. Everyone was cooler, everyone seemed more likely to succeed, everyone seemed more natural at it and in retrospect, I think that is good.

I think it is good to come from behind as an actor. I think it is good to go into an audition thinking, 'Man I've got to be at my best to get this gig.

On the night of his final Academy graduation performance, Jackman received a phone call offering him a role on Correlli : "I was technically unemployed for thirteen seconds.

After Correlli Jackman went on the stage in Melbourne. Jackman's early film works include Erskineville Kings and Paperback Hero , and his television work includes Law of the Land , Halifax f.

Jackman became known outside Australia in , when he played the leading role of Curly in the Royal National Theatre 's acclaimed stage production of Oklahoma!

Jackman said, "I totally felt like it can't get any better than this. On some level that production will be one of the highlights of my career.

Jackman had his breakthrough role playing Wolverine in Bryan Singer 's X-Men —a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name.

The role was originally written for Russell Crowe who instead suggested Jackman for the part. Wolverine was tough for Jackman to portray because he had few lines, but much emotion to convey in them.

I'm not normally one to copy, but I wanted to see how these guys achieved it. I watched a lot of Mike Tyson fights, especially his early fights.

There's something about his style, the animal rage, that seemed right for Wolverine. I kept saying to the writers, 'Don't give me long, choreographed fights for the sake of it.

Don't make the fights pretty. He said, "Every day in my living room, I'd just walk around with those claws, to get used to them. I've got scars on one leg, punctures straight through the cheek, on my forehead.

I'm a bit clumsy. I'm lucky I didn't tell them that when I auditioned. Jackman, at 1. This was the second time Jackman worked with Berry, and the two have worked together thrice more in the X-Men movies.

He hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live in Jackman was asked to consider taking on the role as James Bond before Daniel Craig was chosen to play the character, but turned it down due to other commitments.

Speaking to the British Press Association in , Jackman said: "I was about to shoot X-Men 2 and Wolverine had become this thing in my life and I didn't want to be doing two such iconic characters at once.

Jackman portrayed Robert Angier, an aristocratic magician who builds up a rivalry with contemporary Alfred Borden Bale in attempt to one-up each other in the art of deception.

After reading the script, Jackman expressed interest in starring in the film, and Nolan believed that the actor had the qualities of the character.

Jackman portrayed three different characters in Darren Aronofsky 's science-fiction film The Fountain : Tommy Creo, a neuroscientist , who is torn between his wife, Izzi Rachel Weisz , who is dying of a brain tumor , and his work at trying to cure her; Captain Tomas Creo, a Spanish conquistador in Seville ; and a future astronaut, Tom, travelling to a golden nebula in an eco-spacecraft seeking to be reunited with Izzi.

Jackman said The Fountain was his most difficult film thus far due to the physical and emotional demands of the part. He rounded out with two animated films: Happy Feet , directed by George Miller , in which he voiced the part of Memphis, an emperor penguin ; and Flushed Away , where Jackman supplied the voice of a rat named Roddy who ends up being flushed down a family's toilet into the London sewer system.

In , Jackman produced and guest-starred in the television musical - dramedy series Viva Laughlin , which was cancelled by CBS after two episodes.

In , director Baz Luhrmann cast Jackman to replace Russell Crowe as the male lead in his much-publicized epic film , Australia , which co-starred Nicole Kidman.

The movie was released in late November in Australia and the U. Jackman played a tough, independent cattle drover , who reluctantly helps an English noblewoman in her quest to save both her philandering husband's Australian cattle station and the mixed race Aboriginal child she finds there.

Of the movie, Jackman said, "This is pretty much one of those roles that had me pinching myself all the way through the shoot.

I got to shoot a big-budget, shamelessly old-fashioned romantic epic set against one of the most turbulent times in my native country's history, while, at the same time, celebrating that country's natural beauty, its people, its cultures I'll die a happy man knowing I've got this film on my CV.
